[Speaker: Dr. Priya N. Jain]
Hello, my name is Doctor Priya Jain and I am the Pediatric Residency Program Director here at ETSU Quillen College of Medicine.ETSU Department of Pediatrics Residency program trains residents to be competent and compassionate physicians who advocate for improving children's health and strengthening families and communities.
Our focus is on rural health, community outreach, and serving the underserved. Our pediatric residency program is small and diverse.
Our faculty has come from all over the world and train our residents in many specialties. Our faculty work in our ETSU Health Pediatrics outpatient clinics, Niswonger Children's Hospital and Saint Jude Children's Affiliate Hospital in Johnson City. Medical Center.
Niswonger is the only regional children's hospital in the Appalachian Highlands. At ETSU and Niswonger you will have the robust clinical experience needed to become comfortable caring for patients.
Our catchment area has a large population and we get to see a broad range of pathologies.
The pediatric residency program at Quillen College of Medicine aims to provide excellent general pediatric training to prepare our residents to serve as well-rounded, competent, board certified pediatricians.
We look for residents who are diligent, collaborative physicians who want to serve underserved patient populations.
Our residents are confident entering fellowships, starting a private practice, and practicing in their communities all across the country after graduation.
Becoming a resident in this program will allow you to participate in many outreach programs and activities for the Pediatrics department.
One of the unique experiences here is working with patients affected by the opioid crisis. In our region, we have an intense opioid epidemic that affects pregnant moms and their children.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes our Baby Steps clinic as a promising practice, and provided a grant to help substance exposed children reach their full potential in development.
While residency training can be challenging, East Tennessee provides a low stress lifestyle.
We are in Johnson City, surrounded by beautiful mountains of Northeast Tennessee. It is a perfect place to live if you enjoy biking, fishing, hiking, or floating the river with friends and family.
Besides outdoor sports, our vibrant city is booming with restaurants, breweries, festivals, farmers markets and more.
We have a local airport with several direct flights, and many larger cities are within a short drive.
The area is safe to raise a family ,has low cost of living and great sports, no traffic and a population of 70,000 and growing.
So there are always new things to do. Thank you for visiting. We look forward to talking to you more.
