Professional & Academic Resource Center (PARC)
The Quillen College of Medicine Professional and Academic Resource Center (PARC) offers medical students and postgraduate medical trainees a broad spectrum of counseling services including individual, family, marriage and group counseling.
Respecting the need for privacy, every effort is made to protect the confidentiality needed for an effective therapeutic relationship. No information related to students, residents or fellows is kept other than in the PARC House files.
The Professional and Academic Resource Center is located in a single dwelling house in a residential neighborhood near campus, with a satellite office in the Medical Library. These sites were selected for the privacy of medical students, resident physicians, fellows and their families. No signage is posted that would indicate the presence of a counseling center.
Counseling is provided by a dedicated staff of counselors who have no teaching or evaluative role at Quillen. Specific counselors have other specific fields of interest and expertise that can be utilized after the initial consultation.
Should a student or postgraduate medical trainee need to see a psychiatrist for medication, assessment or other issues, a psychiatrist is also available at specific times and days at the PARC House to provide priority services. This allows them to establish a therapeutic relationship with a psychiatrist (when a different level of intervention is needed) who will not be interacting with them in an academic, clinical, or hospital environment as a teacher, attending or preceptor.
Services for medical students, postgraduate medical trainees and their immediate families are provided at no cost. Hours are flexible and appointments may be scheduled until early evening. Some Saturdays are also available to provide maximum accessibility to students.
