Welcome Message
Welcome to East Tennessee State University!
Our Campus Police Department has twenty sworn full-time law enforcement professionals, three civilian full-time security guards, as well as six full-time emergency service dispatchers. We provide police services 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Our staff is dedicated to making your time at ETSU a safe and pleasant experience.
Our officers are commissioned state-certified thru the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (Tennessee POST). They respond to both in-progress and cold crimes. They investigate reported felonies, misdemeanor offenses, and traffic accidents, provide safety escorts, and motorist assistance and manage after -hour access. Officers conduct vehicle, bicycle, and foot patrols and also provide physical security for all ETSU owned properties.
I invite you to partner with your Campus Police Department. Report any suspicious activity you feel may warrant our attention, such as criminal activity on or near any campus. Reporting these incidents allows us to target our patrols to prevent further incidents and to prevent accidents in areas posing threats to the safety of our campus community. By Becoming our partners, you can assist us in making our campus community a safer place to be.
As Tennessee State Certified police officers, we work in close cooperation with our neighboring law enforcement agencies to include the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Johnson City Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and others. We are happy to assist you in police matters with those agencies when appropriate.
All of our police personnel are in direct radio communication with the dispatch center. If at any time you need assistance, you may approach any of us. If we cannot help you, we will be able to contact those who can. We also provide numerous "Blue" Safety Phones throughout campus and we utilize the ETSU App to notify our campus community of any major emergencies on campus in a timely manner.
If you have any comments or questions regarding the Campus Police Department, please feel free to contact our office.
Sincerely,
Cesar Gracia
