University Elementary School Student Spotlight - April 10, 2023

Elementary School Honoree – Isaac Cook (1st Grade)

Isaac is a true leader in our classroom and at University School in general. He shows everyone respect, kindness and compassion. Isaac is a hard worker and routinely volunteers to help with any classroom task. Isaac loves good jokes (especially the morning joke of the day from the office) and has a contagious laugh that follows. He demonstrates perseverance and never gives up on a challenging or new activity.

Getting to know Isaac:

  • What class/subject is most challenging but also fun?

“Reading.  I am a good reader, but sometimes the questions I have to answer are hard.  I’ve already read an entire series, and I am starting a new series now.  Reading is fun.”

  • What do adults not understand about being a student in current times?

“They had different subjects because they are older now.  It’s harder now because people know more stuff.”

  • What do you miss most about Kindergarten?

“The easy work is one thing.  I knew more about the topics in Kindergarten.  I miss that we watched more videos because I have a limit on screen time. I also miss Plus-Plus, a building block game.  I could use all the blocks I needed to make things.”

“Isaac helps create a positive, happy classroom daily,” Mrs. Jeffers, Isaac’s 1st-grade teacher. “He can be overheard complimenting a friend or offering support for whatever the situation may be. Isaac has a very kind heart and truly wants all of his classmates to have a great day. On the playground, Isaac can be seen making new friends or catching up with other 1st graders. He is always willing to hold doors open and tidy up the classroom at the end of our school day. Isaac loves learning and contributes questions to whole group discussions that extend our current learning.”
