High School Honoree – Tom Cullen (HS Senior)
Tom is a student worker in the library. He is always kind and helpful when completing his hours in the library. He works hard and has learned to help shelf the books in the library and does an excellent job! When he finishes he continues to organize and find ways to be helpful! Tom cares a great deal about his school work and always works hard to understand it and complete it. He is always kind and friendly to his classmates and teachers. Tom has shown such enormous growth over the years, and especially this year in his participation. He is demonstrating this through discussion and participation in class, working with others, and volunteering in the library.
Getting to know Tom:
- What is your favorite memory from the current school year?
“Getting birthday cards from all my classmates and friends.”
- If a friend from a different school asked you about University School, what would you tell them?
“I would tell them that all grades are welcome. I would also let them know they would
have a great view of Norfolk Southern trains passing by.”
- What item would you like to bring as a show-and-tell to your classmates?
“I would bring one of my favorite model trains.”
“Tom is a kind and thoughtful person!” commented Mrs. Lindsay Lester, the University School librarian. “Each time he passes by the library, he always stops to wave and say hi to me! He works hard during his time as a library helper and makes sure to help keep the books looking nice and organized on the shelf!” Added Ms. Tammy Dycus, Tom’s Algebra II teacher: “It has been a joy to watch Tom grow over the past few years. He is a wonderful young man who cares passionately about his interests and is so kind to others.” Faculty Member Ms. Kim Allison said: “Tom has shown such enormous growth over the years, and especially this year in his participation. He is demonstrating this through discussion and participation in class, working with others, and volunteering in the library.
