High School Honoree – Mason McReynolds (HS Sophomore)
Mason is somewhat new to UH, having transferred in last year. However, he jumped right in and got involved; he loves theatre and French. He enthusiastically shares his knowledge of Europe from his many years of living in Germany and relates it all to French. He is a supportive friend and classmate and has a great sense of humor and enthusiasm.
Getting to know Mason:
- What is your favorite part of the year?
“Winter, absolutely. The snow and cold weather remind me of where I grew up, in Germany. My dad was in the Air Force, but he’s retired now. I lived outside of Ramstein Air Force Base in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany. The mountains here in East Tennessee and the winters remind me of growing up there.”
- You are stuck on a deserted island for a month with only the necessities outside of one item of choice. What item are you choosing?
“I would want some kind of GPS. I would want to know where I am.”
- If you could be principal for a day at University School, what are you doing first?
“First thing I would do is implemented a free day for students. No tests or quizzes. Students, especially in high school, are stressed out from tests and quizzes. It would help them a lot to have a day they could relax at school.”
“Mason brings enthusiasm to class every day,” commented Ms. Rachel Dines, Mason’s French 1 teacher. “He is lively and engaged in class. He has a great sense of humor and brings others into class activities. He also shares his knowledge of Europe from living there for several years. Mason is a joy to have in class!”
