Middle School Honoree – Sofia Villanueva (8th Grade)

Sofia is a wonderful student. She is respectful, responsible, and trustworthy. She always strives to do her best and displays strong perseverance. You can always count on Sofia to help others around her and make everyone feel included.

Getting to know Sofia:

  • What is your biggest hope for the future?

“I’d say becoming a neurologist of some sort.  Maybe be a neuro-surgeon so I can help people.  I know some people in the medical profession and have spoken with them about neurology.  I think it would be interesting along with the satisfaction of helping people.”

  • What quality do you most appreciate in your favorite teacher?

“Some teachers can be intimidating, so I appreciate teachers who are approachable.  I can ask for help without feeling like I’m being judged for not knowing that material.  I came here a couple years ago in 6th grade, and all my teachers here have been very nice and approachable.”

  • What do you wish you would’ve known sooner?

“How to manage time.  We don’t always have a bunch of homework, but if you can manage your time well enough you have more extra time for sports or a social life.  It’s still a work in progress for me but I feel like I’m getting better.  I’m playing on the school tennis team and also my grades are important to me, so I’ve had to learn to be better with my time-management.”

“Sofia has a great sense of humor and always makes me smile,” pointed out Mrs. Reis, Sofia’s Math teacher. “It has been a joy to see her grow from a shy sixth-grader into a confident and determined young lady.”
