Ariane Day - ETSU Centennial Celebration Faculty Award & University School Innovative Faculty Award
Congratulations to Ms. Ariane Day, recipient of a distinguished ETSU Centennial Celebration
Faculty Award!
As part of the ETSU Centennial Celebration on October 1st, faculty members from each college on campus were recognized. Due to the significant contribution of University School to ETSU, we were asked to select a University School faculty member to receive the award. As stated in our campus history,"The present University School has been a part of ETSU since it began in 1911 as a two-year normal school."
K-12 students voted, with Ms. Day receiving the highest number of votes.
Ms. Ariane Day was born in Geneva, Switzerland, and then came to the United States
in 1993. She received her M. Ed. in Secondary Education and also a Bachelor of Arts
in Education with a double major in French and German, from ETSU. She has been employed
as a French and German instructor at University School for the past 10 years. She
is also Coordinator for MyGradeBook.com, serves on the Foreign Language Committee, serves as Chair for the Prom Committee
and Chair for the Curriculum & Instruction PLC, and sponsors the French Club. Her
professional affiliations include NEA/TEA: National and Tennessee Education Association,
ACTFL: American Council of Teachers of a Foreign Language, TFLTA: Tennessee Foreign
Language 'Teachers' Association, and AATF: American Association of Teachers of French.
University School students love Ms. Day, and appreciate her patience and expertise
while providing instruction. Under her guidance, students are successful in learning
both French and German and several pursue French or German as a minor and even major
in college.
Ms. Day is a superb example of the excellent instruction provided at ETSU and University School. We are so very proud to claim her as a Buc!
As an extension to the above, Ms. Day received the "University School Innovative Faculty
Award" from the Clemmer College of Education on Tuesday, April 19th, 2011
