University High School Student Spotlight - August 16, 2022

High School Honoree – Karen Tarukwasha

Karen has thrown herself into organizing our new multicultural club with gusto.  She brought numerous colorful, interesting cultural artifacts for our club fair, and 55 students signed up.  Karen has already planned out dates, guest speakers, and ideas for cultural events.  She is a cornerstone of our multicultural experience for students at UH.

Getting to know Karen:

  • What is your favorite thing about University School?

Since I have been here, I have met so many amazing people and have been given so many opportunities.  I am extremely grateful!

  • What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I’ve been given is to always be prepared; there is no telling what’s in store for you.

  • What is something about yourself you want other people to know?

I try my best to be friendly to people.  I think friendships and relationships are one of the most important things in a person’s life.

“Karen is a bright young lady who embodies multicultural passion,” said Ms. Rachel Dines, Karen’s Personal Finance teacher. “She has stepped up as a leader in the newly organized Multicultural Club and has recruited 55 members.  She also frequently shares ideas and personal experience in class.  She volunteered to use her French skills to tutor French 1 students.  She is so involved in many levels in life at UH!”
