University High School Student Spotlight - September 20, 2022

High School Honoree – HS Door Greeters (AJ Murphy, Caleb Walley, Abel Pate, Jordan Carter)

These amazing high school young men are spending most mornings greeting student and staff coming through the doors into school. “Good Morning," with a fist bump -- and sometimes added music -- these wonderful young men are making connections with and for members of our U-School family. Their actions have created a great vibe of school unity and show a unique leadership moment that they took upon themselves. These small acts of kindness are a credit to the University High school spirit. They are breaking barriers and making the morning transition into school go a little easier for students and staff.

Getting to know the Student Greeters:

  • What’s the most meaningful gift you have ever received? (answered by AJ Murphy)

“The gift to be able to play basketball…I feel blessed to be healthy and be able to play.  I’m thankful for the sport.”

  • Imagine you discover a beautiful island where you decide to build a new society. What is the first rule you put in place? (answered by Caleb Walley)

“Be kind to one another.  If a people aren’t good to each other, the society wouldn’t live in harmony.”

  • If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would buy? (answered by Jordan Carter & Abel Pate)

“I would buy a big house,” Abel Pate said.  “I have lots of siblings so if I had a big house we could all be together.” Added Jordan Carter: “I’d take all the ‘Bears’ to the Super Bowl.  The ‘Bears’ are my boys – my best friends.”

“Thank you for really making such a positive difference to all of us at University School!” commented faculty member Ms. Nicole Havert.  “We are all very proud of each of the young men who are taking a small step to make the start of the day a little brighter.”
