Cardiology
The Division of Cardiology provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care while advancing education and research. Faculty deliver a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic heart services, including general cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology. Through a strong partnership with the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, the division also provides hands-on training for fellows, residents and medical students in a collaborative academic environment.
Endocrinology
The Division of Endocrinology provides comprehensive care for patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, obesity, thyroid, pituitary, adrenal and mineral metabolism conditions. Faculty are committed to delivering compassionate patient care while educating medical students and residents through inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences. The division also supports a broad range of clinical and basic science research focused on endocrine disease, diabetes prevention and metabolic health.
Gastroenterology
The Division of Gastroenterology provides comprehensive care for patients with digestive and liver diseases through advanced diagnostic, therapeutic and endoscopic services. General Internal Medicine
The Division of General Internal Medicine provides comprehensive primary care for adults while serving as a key teaching site for Quillen College of Medicine. Faculty deliver outpatient and inpatient care, educate medical students and residents through hands-on clinical experiences, and hold leadership roles within the Department of Internal Medicine. The division is committed to excellence in patient care, medical education and practice-based scholarship across its clinical sites in Johnson City and Kingsport.
Infectious, Inflammatory and Immunologic Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases provides expert care for patients with complex infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, travel-related illnesses and infections requiring specialized treatment. Faculty combine compassionate patient care with education for medical students, residents and fellows while advancing research in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship. Hospital Medicine
The Division of Hospital Medicine provides comprehensive inpatient care for adults across a wide range of medical conditions. Medical Oncology
The Division of Medical Oncology provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals with cancer through advanced diagnosis, treatment and supportive care services. Faculty are committed to delivering innovative cancer therapies while educating medical students, residents and fellows in an academic setting. The division also advances cancer research through clinical trials and translational research to improve outcomes for patients across the region.
Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine provides comprehensive care for patients with lung diseases, critical illnesses and sleep disorders. Faculty deliver advanced inpatient and outpatient services while educating medical students, residents and fellows through hands-on clinical training. Rheumatology

Research
The Division of Research within the Department of Internal Medicine advances innovative basic, translational and clinical research focused on improving health outcomes for patients across the region and beyond. Faculty investigators lead NIH-, VA- and DoD-funded projects exploring areas such as infectious diseases, immunology, cancer, liver disease and other complex medical conditions.
