Studying abroad is an opportunity to gain a broader appreciation of cultures and people outside Tennessee and the United States.  Study abroad programs may be based at ETSU or students may choose independent study abroad programs.

  • Schedule an advising appointment by calling International Student and Scholar Services: (423) 439-7737.
  • Fill out a ETSU Scholar Development and Education Abroad Inquiry Form and bring it to your advising appointment in the Multicultural Center.
  • Meet with your academic advisor to determine how studying abroad fits into your schedule or degree.
  • Contact the Financial Aid office to see how it might apply.

The Washington Center Internship and Seminar Program

ETSU maintains a partnership with The Washington Center Internship and Seminar Program located in Washington, D.C. This organization provides internship placements with thousands of government, private, and not-for-profit organizations. Contact: Karla Leybold ETSU liaison

Honors Living & Learning Community honors learning and living community outdoor social

ETSU offers three Honors Living & Learning Communities (HLLC) in Lucille Clement, Governors and Centennial residence halls. For further information about reserving your space in one of the HLLCs, visit the Housing and Residence Life website.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

Completing a research or creative project gives you hands-on student undergraduate research posterexperience and greater understanding of your major area of study. We can tell you that the experience will:

  • develop and hone skills necessary for future graduate study and employment.
  • determine whether you want to continue in this field, go to graduate or professional school or seek future employment.
  • show others that you have the knowledge and skills to complete a major project AND you have a project that demonstrates application of your knowledge and skills.

National, Regional, and Local Leadership

The ETSU Honors College is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council, Southern Regional Honors Council, and the Tennessee Collegiate Honors Council.  The Honors College offers opportunities to attend and present research and creative works at these conferences.  ETSU also is a member of the Council for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, which holds two conferences, one for student research presentations and the other to foster undergraduate research with faculty and staff.  Ask faculty in your field of study about their professional organizations.  Additionally opportunities for leadership roles are available on boards, committees, and student governance at the local, regional, and national levels.
