As we prepare for the changing of the seasons, we ask that our families please review our inclement weather policy. Although we have a partnership with Washington County Schools, we do want to remind our families that we follow a different calendar and inclement weather and emergency closure policy, so please be sure to review the information below:
Inclement Weather & Emergency Closure Policy:
University School will close when:
- Johnson City Schools close for inclement weather.
- ETSU closes for inclement weather.
- There is a school-specific emergency requiring closure.
We do not make announcements through local news outlets, as “University School” closures can easily be mistaken for ETSU announcements. Instead, families should rely on our website, social media, and the email distribution system.
We understand that some families live in areas where weather conditions may be more severe. If University School remains open but road conditions between your home and the school are unsafe, please do not put yourself at risk. Call the school office to let us know your circumstances.
On inclement-weather days when Johnson City Schools are not already in session, announcements will be made through our regular email system, website, and social media channels.

Half Day Schedule
On half days, students report to school normally, but we dismiss at 11:30. Students are able to purchase breakfast at school on half days, but lunches are not served.

Students who are taking dual-enrollment classes: if there is a time conflict between your dual-enrollment and your University School classes, students will need to check out in the main office before going to their dual-enrollment classes. Ask the office if you have any questions. ** 8th graders in HS Math report to the library 10:35 - 10:45 before Math class. At the end of Math class report to the library again 11:20 - 11:35 (unless they have HS Science). 8th graders in HS Science report to the cafeteria for lunch/ study hall 12-1:00 ** Incase weather permits an outdoor recess, K-2 will go 1:35 - 1:55 and 3-4 will go 2:05 - 2:25 |
