During the 2020-21 academic year, ETSU is offering FREE tuition for first-time, full-time freshmen who meet our eligibility requirements.

*Your remaining funds can go toward other costs you may have (for example, course fees, residence hall rent, or dining plan). Half of the balance will be available in the fall and half in the spring term.

  • How long will I recieve free tuition?
    This program is available for the 2020-2021 academic year.
  • What does free tuition cover?
    Free Tuition covers tuition and program service fees. Free Tuition does not cover course fees or the costs associated with on-campus housing. Other scholarships or grants you might be receiving may be used to cover costs of on-campus housing and course fees.
  • Am I eligible for other scholarships or awards outside of Tennessee Student Assistance Award and HOPE?
    It is possible to receive other scholarships or awards. We recommend you check your financial aid award in GoldLink or contact a Financial Aid counselor at https://www.etsu.edu/finaid/counselors.php.
  • How do I know if I meet these requirements?
    You can check your eligibility through their Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) student portal located at https://www.tn.gov/CollegePays.
  • Do Transfer and/or returning students qualify for this program?
    No, only first-time freshmen are eligible to participate.
  • Am I eligible if I live in an ETSU border county?
    No, only students who are classified as in-state and qualify for the Tennessee Education Lottery (HOPE) Scholarship are eligible.
  • Am I eligible if I live out of state?
    No, only students who are classified as in-state and qualify for the Tennessee Education Lottery (HOPE) Scholarship are eligible.
  • Are international students eligible?
    No, only domestic students who are classified as in-state and qualify for the Tennessee Education Lottery Hope Scholarship are eligible.
