Gratitude is an emotional expression of appreciation for what we already have, as opposed to thinking about additional wants or needs. It has two components:
- It is an affirmation of the benefits we have received.
- It involves thinking beyond ourselves to acknowledge how weve been supported and affirmed by others.
Good news! Gratitude is an emotion that can be cultivated with practice, and it is associated with increased levels of energy, optimism, and creativity.
You can cultivate gratitude by keeping a Gratitude Journal. List one thing (big or small) that you are thankful for each day. You may also consider taking part in the 100 Happy Days project.
