Aquatics
Lifeguards:
- Lifeguards must be American Red Cross Lifeguard certified
- Ensure patron safety on pool deck and in water
- Maintain clean and sanitary work area

Operations
Facility Assistants:
- Provide customer service, assistance, and information to facility users
- Work as a team to ensure the operation of a safe and clean facility
- Enforce facility policies related to facility access, dress code, safety, and security
- Perform Equipment Desk duties including, but not limited to, operating recreational services software, providing checkout and check-in services of locker keys and equipment, and towel/laundry service
- Assist with the set-up, break-down, and cleanup of special events held within the facility
- Other duties as assigned

Fitness | Now Hiring!
Group Fitness Instructors:
- Provide exceptional customer service to group fitness participants
- Work as a team to ensure the successful operation of group fitness initiatives and promote others’ classes
- Enforce facility policies related to facility access, dress code, safety, and security
- Perform duties including, but not limited to, teaching recurring group fitness classes, tracking participants via the CPA Member Portal, and maintaining studio cleanliness
- Assist with the set-up, break-down, and cleanup of special fitness events held within the facility
- Knowledge of the facility’s Emergency Action Plan and respond to incidents and accidents within the facility as prescribed by the EAP
- Attend scheduled trainings at the beginning of each semester and monthly meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Personal Trainers:
- Provide exceptional customer service to personal training clients
- Work as a team to conduct personal training promotion events such as Trainer Tuesday
- Enforce facility policies related to facility access, dress code, safety, and security
- Perform duties including, but not limited to, conducting free consultations, providing effective training to clients, leading small group training programs, tracking participant progress and completion, maintaining client confidentiality and records, and assisting with special events
- Assist with the set-up, break-down, and cleanup of special fitness events held within the facility
- Knowledge of the facility’s Emergency Action Plan and respond to incidents and accidents within the facility as prescribed by the EAP
- Attend scheduled trainings at the beginning of each semester and monthly meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Personal Trainers and Group Fitness Instructors are required to hold an American Red Cross CPR/AED Certification and a group fitness or personal training certification from a nationally recognized agency.

Intramural Sports
Officials:
- Provide fair application of the playing rules during intramural competition including, but not limited to: flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball
- Assist with set-up and tear-down of facility operations
- Attend in-service trainings and meetings

Program Assistants:
- Assist with participant registration and sign-in
- Record scores during intramural competitions
- Assist with set-up and tear-down of facility operations

Outdoor Adventure
OA Attendants:
- Assist patrons by providing basic climbing safety information and demonstrating proper climbing technique and belay instruction
- Administer and manage registration for programs, belay certification tests, and other related materials
- Provide team building and aerial adventure course facilitation for organized groups and open high challenge course programs
- Facilitate discussions, encourage participants, and support individuals and groups in their learning experience
- Attend in-service trainings and meetings
- OA Attendants must be American Red Cross CPR/AED certified
- Other certifications, such as Wilderness First Aid, ACCT Challenge Course Facilitator I, or PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor, are recommended but not required

Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer will assist with providing promotional designs, creating displays, facility signage, brochures, social media content, and other marketing materials for ETSU Campus Recreation’s facilities and programs.
Minimum Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in graphic design, digital media, or a related field
- Experience working in programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Procreate, or Canva
- Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work evening/weekend Campus Recreation events

Photographer/Videographer

Marketing Intern
The Marketing Intern will play a primary role in managing and growing Campus Recreation’s social media presence while promoting programs and events across all program areas, including Aquatics, Facility Operations, Fitness, Outdoor Adventure, and Sport Programs.

Now Hiring: Coordinator of Outdoor Adventure
East Tennessee State University is seeking a dynamic and student-focused professional to serve as the Coordinator of Outdoor Adventure within Campus Recreation. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventure, this new position will play a key role in shaping outdoor experiences that foster student connection, leadership development, and a sense of belonging.

About ETSU Outdoor Adventure
Named a Top Adventure College by Blue Ridge Magazine in 2023 and 2024, ETSU Outdoor Adventure is a comprehensive program designed to connect students to meaningful outdoor experiences. The program includes the Basler Team Challenge & Aerial Adventure Course, an indoor climbing wall, a robust trips program, the Buc Bikes program, outdoor gear rental, and stewardship of the university’s trail system. Together, these offerings create multiple entry points for students of all experience levels to engage with the outdoors. ETSU Outdoor Adventure employs ~35 student employees and two (2) graduate assistants.
About this Position
The position of Coordinator of Outdoor Adventure is being created with the goal of expanding first-year orientation programs in mind. Funded through the Strategic Initiative fund, this position will provide the opportunity to grow first-year orientation trips, expand our student trip leader program (BOLT), and program over 30 trips annually during the fall and spring semesters.
What Success Looks Like in Year One
- Successfully help our department expand our first-year outdoor orientation program that increases student participation and enhances the transition experience
- Recruit, train, and retain a strong team of student trip leaders who demonstrate growth in leadership, risk management, and facilitation skills
- Deliver a consistent, high-quality trips program (30+ trips annually) with strong participant satisfaction and engagement
- Build collaborative relationships with campus partners to increase visibility and utilization of Outdoor Adventure programs
- Maintain high standards in safety, risk management, and equipment care across all program areas
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is passionate about experiential learning, enjoys trip
design and implementation, and is excited to expand first-year outdoor orientation
programs while being part of a team.
We require that candidates meet the following minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with demonstrated experience in outdoor trip design and implementation;
one (1) year of experience in collegiate recreation (graduate assistantship experience
accepted); Valid driver’s license; Current American
Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain within an established period after
hire; Current Wilderness First Responder Certification or ability to obtain within
an established period after hire.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting salary for this position is $47,002.36 annually, with up to $1,500 provided
for relocation expenses. This is a 12-month appointment. The work schedule will vary
based on programming needs; however, Campus Recreation supports flexible scheduling
for full-time staff who may work evenings and weekends.

and dependents. Campus Recreation also provides annual funding to support the professional
development of all full-time staff members.
