Brief Bio

Kais Al Balbissi, MD is Assistant Professor of Medicine at East Tennessee State University's Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at East Tennessee State University. Subsequently, Dr. Al Balbissi completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He serves as director of Interventional Cardiology and associate director of the Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship Program in the Quillen College of Medicines Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Al Balbissi also directs the departments Echocardiography Lab and Johnson City Medical Centers Radial Access Program.

Dr. Al Balbissi is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Interventional Cardiology. He is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, and was named a fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention and the American College of Cardiology.

His research interests center on clinical advancements in both Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology, and he has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. The results of Dr. Al Balbissi's research have been presented at several professional conferences, including those of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and NIHs National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Dr. Al Balbissi was named Chief Resident and received the Johnson City Medical Center Chief Resident Award in 2005. He was also named Chief Fellow and received the Cardiovascular Medicine Chief Fellow Award in 2007. He is the recipient of the 2006 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and, since then, has been a named member of The Gold Humanism Honor Society.
