Brief Bio

Ryland Byrd, Jr., MD is Professor of Medicine at East Tennessee State Universitys Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City. He earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he completed two residenciesone in Pathology and one in Internal Medicineand a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine. Board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Dr. Byrd serves on the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicines Division of Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care as well as the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee.

Author of more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Byrds research interests are in the area of immunologic disorders of the lung and, in particular, hypersensitivity pneumonitis. He has served as a member of the editorial board of three medical journals and a reviewer for more than 25 professional publications. He is currently Editor-in-Chief for the open access online journal, Hypersensitivity.

Dr. Byrd was named a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the Southern Medical Association.
